scottishathletics National Community Impact Manager, Stephanie McLean, is to take part in the 2024Women’s Sport Leadership Academy
Beginning on Sunday 8 September, the week-long programme at the University of Chichester aims to develop future leaders, with the aim of increasing the number of female leaders in sport.
Since it was founded in 2014, more than 420 women from 69 countries, spanning many different sports, have become graduates of the Academy.
Steph is the fourth scottishathletics staff member to complete the programme, with Dawn Allan, Lindsay McMahon and Fran Snitjer having been part of earlier cohorts.
Steph joined the scottishathletics Development team in August 2023 in a new role that is a key part of our commitment to widen access to athletics and running across Scotland, to improve diversity in the sport, and contribute towards health and wellbeing nationally.
Her role focusses primarily on creating opportunities for people who live in poverty, people with a disability, and those from ethnically and culturally diverse communities.
‘I am thrilled to have been successful in my application to the WSLA 2024 course and most grateful to my colleagues at scottishathletics for encouraging me to apply,’ said Steph.
‘Having the support of the team means the world to me and I’m excited to see how the learning from the programme can enhance our work within the Community Impact team and wider,
‘I’m most looking forward to meeting other women from across the sporting world and learning about them and their journeys in sport and leadership so far.
‘I’m also looking forward to learning more about myself, my leadership style and skills, and how to utilise these throughout my career development.’
